Boca Ciega Yacht Club

Activities & Events

At BCYC there is something for everyone, and fellowship abounds

Boca Ciega Yacht Club has a full Club Calendar throughout the year. In January, the Club holds its Installation Banquet and Dance featuring a ceremony passing of responsibility to newly elected Officers and Directors, trophies and awards, including the always entertaining "Duh" Flag Awards. Fine dining follows a social hour, and the evening concludes with dancing to live music. This is our only formal event.

Club Weekend begins on the third Friday of each month (except December). The weekend starts with the general membership meeting Friday evening. Saturday morning is Workday from 9am-12pm which includes breakfast and members volunteer for needed club repair and maintenance projects ~ BCYC is 100% maintained by our members. For more details contact the Rear Commodore.

Saturday evening following Workday, a themed covered dish dinner is held where BCYC members enjoy an evening of relaxation, entertainment, good home cooking and conviviality. Bring a covered dish to share in keeping with the theme of the evening.

Club Weekend concludes on Sunday with racing. BCYC sponsors an active racing program with something for everyone including the Spring and Fall series for PHRF-rated sailboats that generally take place monthly on the Sunday of Club Weekend, and various special races planned by the Race Chair. The club also hosts several regattas throughout the year. Non-boat owners and new members are encouraged to come to the club on race Sunday to crew and meet other members.

Monthly weekend cruises are one of BCYC's best events. The BCYC Cruise Committee plans a variety of cruises to nearby destinations and often the “land cruisers” will join the sailors at a local restaurant. Long distance cruising takes place in the late Spring when members can cruise together to places like Key West, Fort Jefferson, North Florida or the Bahamas Islands.

BCYC hosts numerous annual events throughout the year. In the Spring, the Blessing of the Fleet is performed at the Gulfport Pier. Take part in BCYC's largest event of the year, Memorial Day Raft-Up, and help create the biggest swimming pool in Florida! Wrap up the year by participating in the Christmas Lighted Boat Parade held in mid-December which supports Gulfport's Christmas toy drive.

BCYC conducts basic adult sailing school, one of the best in Tampa Bay, which is open to the public. The program is held twice a year and the focus is to teach the two fundamentals of sailing; fun and safety. For the younger sailors, BCYC offers a free youth sailing program every June and is home to the BSA Sea Scout Ship 915. Sea Scouts prepares young men and women (ages 14 to 20) to make ethical choices over their lifetime and to develop leadership skills in a sailing environment.
